What does a Marketer do?

A marketer conceives, develops and executes marketing strategies to promote products, services or brands. You analyze target audiences, monitor results and optimize campaigns based on data. You often work with departments such as sales, communications and design to increase brand visibility.

What does a workday look like?

You start your day by checking current campaigns: how are the ads performing, how is the website doing and where can you optimize? Then you consult with your team about new campaigns or brainstorm on creative concepts. In the afternoon, you work on content planning, draft a newsletter or analyze conversion results. Each day combines strategy, data and creativity.

How do you become a Marketer?

To become a marketer, you usually take a marketing or communications-oriented degree program. Common courses are:

  • HBO Marketing, Communications or Commercial Economics
  • HBO or WO Business Administration with marketing direction
  • WO Marketing Management or Communication Studies
  • Additional training in online marketing, SEO/SEA, analytics or content strategy


Internship experience in marketing or communications helps you get started quickly as a junior marketer.

Salary

In 2025, a marketer's salary ranges from €2,600 to about €5,200 gross per month, depending on experience, specialization and sector.Bonuses or performance rewards are common, especially in commercial environments.

Diploma

A college or university degree in marketing, communications or business administration is often required. Courses in digital marketing, data analytics or social media advertising are a strong addition.

Number of hours

Most marketers work 32 to 40 hours a week. Freelancers or project-based positions may have more flexible hours.

Working Hours

Marketers typically work during office hours (8:30-17:30 a.m.). Deadlines or campaigns can sometimes require extra commitment, especially during product launches or events.
